Local Foodies
Regional food discovery and business marketplace.
The challenge
Local food discovery is fragmented across search engines, social media, individual business websites, event calendars and delivery platforms. Consumers piece the picture together manually, and local businesses have no single place that represents them properly.
The system
Local Foodies is structured as a regional platform rather than a directory. Discovery, content, business management and search architecture are designed together so new geography can be added without redesigning the product.
- Regional discovery
- Business profiles
- Ownership claims
- Business management
- Maps and search
- Editorial content
- Regional SEO
- Billing architecture
- Moderation
- Scalable geography
Current status
Active development / launch-stage.
Founder perspective
What I saw
Regional food discovery was split across social posts, listing sites and out-of-date pages. The businesses had no single place they controlled, and the people searching had no reliable one either.
What I decided
Model regions as data from day one, and treat listings as claimable records rather than static content. That decision shaped almost everything else in the architecture.
Why I chose this approach
A directory is easy to launch and hard to sustain. A marketplace where the business owner has a reason to log in is harder to build, but it keeps the data current without me maintaining it.
